Women Looking Out of Windows (2020)
This is a collection of still images, gathered digitally between April and July 2020, that chronicles the narrative visual trope of women looking out of windows within contemporary television and cinema. There are over five hundred images in the larger collection, seen here is just a small selection.
It references the historical trope of the artist’s studio window as subject matter, as well as ‘the woman at the window’ which can be found throughout the history of art and photography.
WLOOW is a project that is weird and familiar. It is an act of rebellion. The collection is tangled up with the notion of womanhood, and themes of power, domesticity, longing, grief, daydreaming and escapism.
